High Temperature

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO IF YOUR CHILD HAS A HIGH TEMPERATURE

  1. Give your child regular paracetamol elixir (also known as Calpol, Medinol, Disprol), as this helps reduce their temperature, as well as easing any discomfort they may have. DO NOT EXCEED THE SUGGESTED DOSE FOR YOUR CHILD'S AGE RANGE.

  2. Tepid sponging can also reduce a high temperature. To do this wash your child down with lukewarm water, then pat them dry. Do not rub them dry as this creates heat, and may increase their temperature again.

  3. You may have to tepid sponge your child several times before their temperature comes down. Alternatively, you can let your child have a cool bath or shower.

  4. Once their temperature has returned to normal keep them in a cool room with lightweight clothes on.
